Spring Maintenance Checklist

Posted April 12, 2017

The snow has melted, the sun is shining, and you’re in a great mood. With all of us experiencing spring fever, our cars are the last thing we are thinking about. But spring is the time that you need to concentrate on your car’s maintenance to ensure it keeps running smoothly all summer long.

Here is a quick list to follow for your spring maintenance checklist:

Change Over Your Tires

Winter tires are not made to be used in temperatures over 7°C. The rubber that they are made with is more pliable than the rubber on all-season tires; therefore, leaving winter tires on in warm conditions will wear your tire tread much faster than if you were driving on all-season tires. Overall, when the weather starts to consistently reach above 7°C, have your all-season tires put back on your vehicle.

Inspect Your Tires

If your old all-season tires have been sitting in your garage all winter, check them over for punctures, cracks and bulges. Bring them into your local Integra Tire and we’ll be sure to inspect them too. If we notice that your tread is getting low, we may suggest buying new all-season tires. Luckily we have many sales on right now!

Check Under Your Hood

Your oil should be changed once every 5,000-10,000km so for most people, the spring is the perfect reminder to get it changed. Also get your belts and hoses inspected to be sure that they are all working properly. Finally, check the charge on your battery. The cold winter months can be hard on a battery and if your battery has already died once, that could mean it has an even weaker charge. Bring your car into your local Integra Tire and we can have a look at everything under the hood.

Clean Your Car

After your car has been caked in salt and sand all winter, make sure to give it a thorough cleaning – especially make sure to clean the under carriage to prevent rust and corrosion. Also give the inside of your car a good cleaning to give your car a fresh spring smell.

Check the Brakes

The winter can cause a lot of wear and tear on your brakes. We can inspect them to ensure that your brake pads are in good shape. A brake inspection should be done every 25,000km so bring your vehicle into your local Integra Tire and we can have a look at them today.

Check the Air Conditioning

You probably haven’t turned on your air conditioning since the summer so spring is the perfect time to test it to ensure that it’s working. Don’t wait until it’s 30°C to find out that it’s not working!

If you follow all of these spring maintenance tips, your car should stay in good condition – at least until the next snowfall.
