Entertaining Your Kids on A Road Trip
Thank you to our Grand 9 student, Claire Beauchesne, who helped us out by writing this blog post:
Entertaining your kids on a road trip is a difficult thing but I have a few ideas that will help! As a fourteen-year-old girl, I am not interested in playing I-spy or bingo, but I really enjoy listening to audio books and music or doing a digital colour by number. You might think most young kids would not like audio books, and I felt the same way, until my phone died on the way to Saskatchewan, and my mom let me listen to her audio book. At first, I thought it was weird, but then I was hooked on the book. It was like watching a movie for your ears! You can buy or download audio books to your phone that allows you to listen without Wi-Fi. My favorite app is Libby, and if you have a library card, you can enter it and have access to a variety of free audio books and regular books.
The next best thing to do on a road trip is playing a game. One I enjoy is Plates – Family Travel Game. For this app, each player’s phone tracks their score, so you don’t need a Wi-Fi connection. Another fun family road trip game is PSYCH! It will give you trivia questions with multiple choice answers – some that are totally ridiculous. These will help the time fly!
My final favourite thing is using colour by number apps, where you can colour different animals, food, and people. You can also create your own picture. I use the Sandbox app that is free to download and, again, does not need Wi-Fi. Other good ones to try are Pixel Art and UNICORN. Are you still bored and not quite at your destination? Sit back and enjoy some music!
