Holiday Driving Tips
The holiday season is here! Holiday parties and family get-togethers are a weekly occurrence for the month of December and that means more time on the roads and the highway. We’ve compiled some ways to help you stay safe on the road this holiday season:
1. Get Your Seasonal Maintenance Completed
Before you leave for your trip, get your vehicle inspected. Bring your vehicle into your local Integra Tire and we can check your tire pressure, brakes, lights, battery, and fluid levels. Getting an inspection will give you the assurance that your car will get you to your destination safely.
2. Plan Your Route
Check the weather before you leave on your trip to ensure that the roads will be safe to drive on. Furthermore, you should check the highway and traffic reports to ensure there are no accidents or construction zones on your route. Finally, give yourself extra time just in case you encounter any bad weather, car accidents, or construction zones.
3. Prepare for an Emergency
Have a winter emergency kit in your vehicle in case you get stranded on the side of the road. This kit should include a cell phone charger, booster cables, windshield washer fluid, a shovel, sand or salt, gloves, a blanket, and a flashlight. Finally, make sure that your gas tank is never less than half full in the winter because condensation could build up in the gas lines and freeze.
4. Stay Alert
Make sure that you’ve had a good sleep before you drive. If you are feeling fatigued, then let someone else drive for a while. It’s also important to take frequent breaks while on a long trip. Lastly, never drink and drive or consume cannabis before you drive. Always have a designated driver, whether you are driving two hours away or two minutes away.
5. Secure Your Vehicle
Make sure that your vehicle is always secure. Never leave your keys in the car or leave your car unlocked. Never leave your child or pet alone in the car and never leave valuables in the car. Finally, make sure to hide any gifts or new purchases that you made so they aren’t visible through the window.
6. Check the Gas Prices
Gas prices can fluctuate continuously in the holiday season so download an app like GasBuddy that will warn you when the gases are about to spike.
Follow these tips and you’ll get to your destinations safely and will be able to celebrate the holiday season with your friends and family!
